Gingerbread Man!

We got a hot deal on a tub of ready-made gingerbread cookie dough at the Target after-holiday clearance sale, so we rolled out some cookies today. Lauren was convinced that they would hop out of the oven and run away after this incident occured in her First Grade class. She told me that you bake them 5 minutes for a baby gingerbread, 10 minutes for an adult, and 8 minutes makes the perfect amount for the running kind.

To our great disappointment, none of our cookies hopped up and ran away. What do you expect from ready-made dough?

Christmas at the Farm

We all had a nice Christmas in Lake City at my parents' farm. Tim left after Christmas to spend a few days with the Gilberts in New Jersey. Here are a few pictures from Christmas. The first is my parents' New Year card picture. The girls each got American Girl dolls. Lauren got Samantha and Claire got Nellie. My grandma Powell's name was Nellie and she was born in 1900, which makes her the same era that Claire's Nellie doll lives in. Claire also got a pompom girl outfit from her Nana that makes Nellie look quite modern.

Picture with Santa

So it occurs to me on Dec. 23rd that we still haven't taken a picture of the kids with Santa yet. It actually turned out great! I scanned in the one we bought plus I took a few candids.

In other news, Drew now can say "shop" and "mall." And "ho ho ho."

The Gilberts Go Blog!

After reading lots of blog addresses in our Christmas cards, I decided to launch our own site for news. Hopefully I can keep this updated with pictures at least. This is the one from our Christmas card. It was taken this summer at the Minnesota Zoo in the indoor tropical center. The zoo is awesome by the way. Very big with natural habitats for the animals. Our Des Moines zoo membership worked for admission too.
We had originally intended to take a family picture for our card this year but we had too many scrapes, etc. as December approached. Next year we will have to try all year for a family shot - maybe then we'll end up with one!
Here's the traditional Christmas card-like update:
Trent will be 10 in a few weeks and is in 4th grade. He loves school! He plays basketball, baseball, and soccer. He recently performed in his class play, "Because of Winn-Dixie." He played the preacher. If I can figure it out, I will post a scene or two that I recorded with our digital camera.
Lauren is 7 and in 1st grade. She is a happy, energetic little girl. She is excited to sell Girl Scout cookies this year as a Brownie scout. She dances ballet and tap. Her big joy is playing with our neighbor friends!
Claire is 4 1/2 and growing up so much! She is in preschool three afternoons a week. She loves school and learning. She has learned sign language for all the letters and numbers, and Spanish for days of the week, numbers, and months. She will start Kindergarten in the fall. She also enjoys ballet and soccer.
Drew just turned 2 on Dec. 16th. In the past few weeks, his speech has exploded! He loves being able to say what he wants now. He is a good-natured, very high energy little guy. He is crazy about his Papa, Jill's dad.
Tim turned 40 in November and Jill is close behind him, hanging tough at 39. Tim has worked at Principal Financial Group for 8 years now. We enjoy our life in Des Moines very much!
